Dr. Mufson is a native of Miami Beach, Florida, and a graduate of Miami Beach Senior High School. He received a BS degree from University of Florida in Gainesville in 1975, followed by a DDS degree from Temple University School of Dentistry in Philadelphia, PA in 1983. 

After four years of dental school, he completed a post-doctoral residency training program in the specialty of oral and maxillofacial surgery at Georgetown University School of Dentistry and Medical Center in  Washington, DC in 1986.

He then returned to his home town, where he has practiced as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon since 1986. In 1991, he successfully completed the written and oral examinations administered by the

American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS), and thus conferring upon him the status of board-certification as a specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a Diplomate of the ABOMS.

Throughout a span of over thirty years in practice, Dr. Mufson has been very involved in the dental community and organized dentistry. In addition to membership, he has served as a leader and  president of multiple local and state dental and oral and maxillofacial surgery organizations, including North Dade - Miami Beach Dental Society, South Florida District Dental Association, Miami Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and Florida Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is also a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons,  American Dental Association and Florida Dental Association.

Dr. Mufson has also been involved in teaching and lecturing dentists for over thirty years on the subjects of state-mandated courses required for biennial license renewal.  These have included,  Laws and Rules of Dentistry, Medical Errors/Risk Management, and Prescribing of Controlled Substances.

His hobbies include playing, writing and recording music (piano, percussion and other instruments), fishing, boating, biking, and above all, family.

In his last year of dental school, Dr. Mufson met Loretta, a Pittsburgh native and graduating student in physical therapy, whom he would marry and together share their lives with three wonderful children, Laura, Robert and Nicholas.
